The sun and the lengthening hours of daylight are here again. Today is the spring equinox when night and day are equal in length, signifying the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere. (In the southern hemisphere, it is the fall equinox.)
It’s like magic when I hear the birds sing in the morning, which they’ve been doing since the beginning of March. Birds – and their hormones – react to light. The local birds, including robins, wrens, and chickadees, are ramping up for nesting season with their songs and calls.
It’s been an exceedingly cold winter in much of the United States and across the northern hemisphere. Here comes the sun.
